STAGING HOMES WITH COLOR: ADD POPS OF COLOR IN JUST THE RIGHT PLACES AND AMOUNTS

When selling a home, you want to appeal to the widest range of potential buyers as possible. While strong colors can be too personal and style-specific, pops of color in just the right amounts and locations can make your home warm and inviting, and therefore more appealing to buyers.

Here are just a few ways to use color when staging a home.
  • Paint an accept wall or walls. Make sure you have a purpose for painting the wall. For example, maybe the wall is a focal point due to architectural features, like a fireplace. You can also use paint to alter the perception of a room’s size or shape.
  • Add colorful kitchen and bath towels. Purchase a new set of towels to use just for showings and then bring them to your new home.
  • Slipcovers are a great way to not only add color, but to update older furniture pieces, or unite mismatched pieces. Prices vary widely, so stay away from custom pieces unless you are intending to use them long-term.
  • Pillows and throws or blankets come in a wide range of captivating colors and patterns. You can purchase them inexpensively at a number of retail stores. If you have pillows that are worn or mismatched, you can just purchase the covers. If you are creative, you can make your own.

Throw blankets come in a range of colors and styles.
  • New bedding can update a room immediately. You can purchase inexpensive bed-in-a-bag sets at many retailers and online. You can also buy a neutral comforter and add color through blankets and pillows.

  • Curtains add pattern, color, and warmth to a space. If you have an open floor plan, use matching curtains in adjoining rooms to unite the spaces. You don’t need to go neutral with curtains. One simple idea is to add colorful sheers to complement your existing curtains.
  • Rugs are often used as jumping off points for a room’s color scheme. The wide range of styles, colors, patterns, and price ranges are almost unlimited. Many people have rugs in storage that they aren’t using. However, don’t use so many rugs that the space looks cluttered or you hide attractive features like hardwood floors.
  • Vases and candles are an inexpensive way to add color. Just use them sparingly so as not to clutter the space. It’s always better to use a few large items rather than a large number of smaller pieces. When you group items, arrange them in groups of odd numbers, which are more pleasing to the eye. Both come in a range of sizes, colors, and prices, and are available at local retailers and online. You can find simple ideas for using them by searching online.

  • Display fresh fruits and vegetables. This is one of the most inexpensive and practical ways to add color. And they smell nice too. Some of my favorites are limes, lemons, apples, and oranges.
